San Andreas Movie Review

So the other half and I went to the Cineworld unlimited screening of San Andreas starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. One of the perks of being an unlimited member is that you can see one film a month exclusively before general release. This months film was a disaster movie.

You have probably seen the trailer but if you haven’t here it is in all its glory….

As much as I love The Rock, from my days watching WWF and then later WWE I know how charming and charismatic he is. I have also seen quite a few of his films and as such I knew that this film would be a big budget film and the acting and scriptwriting maybe sub par.

My Boyfriend wasn’t impressed and found the film to be full of clichés and yes, this is indeed the case and most parts are predictable, however it is a good all round film. Dwayne even has tears in his eyes at one point He is obviously developing his craft and feeling the emotion. Which goes someway to demonstrate that his acting has improved. He just needs to stop taking films that overly utilises his brawn such as The Fast and the Furious 7. Instead the film utilises the brawn of CGI and destruction and devastation is at it’s finest here! People are appropriately injured, which other films have failed to demonstrate accurately. Avengers:Age of Ultron anyone?

Let’s be clear, I can’t share with you the clichés without spoiling the film. however if you watch the film and guess what’s going to happen then you have seen enough films to know the clichés and then this film is likely to be ruined for you anyway.

I will say however,  that this film according to people who know, seismologists say that this film is highly inaccurate. An earthquake hits 9.6 on the Richter Scale and that is not possible in San Andreas as the fault line isn’t long or deep enough. Variety.com wrote an article about all the inaccuracies which you can find on their site variety.com San Andreas

I think if you want to watch a disaster movie you could do a lot worse than this. It might make you think about what you would do and how helpless you could be if an earth quake like this “did” happen and yes, it’s not the most stimulating film, but sometimes you really don’t want that anyway. You just want to roll your eyes (often) and escape for a couple of hours the monotony of life, stresses you may face or what have you and this film with some popcorn, ice cream, nachos or whatever it is you eat when you watch a film will do that. For a while at least. Even if it just makes you laugh at the absurdity of it all. That alone makes it worth a watch!

Want another reason to watch? Kylie Minogue makes an appearance so if you like her great and if you don’t she’s only in it for 5 minutes and you can only laugh at what happens….

I gave it a 6.5 but that’s cos I got to take a look at Dwayne’s rippling muscles. My boyfriend gave it a 4! So we will even it out at  5.

I will leave you though with a pic of Dwayne, well just because I can!

Let me know what you think of the move if you watch it! Is it far-fetched?
